Today is yet another great day and a memorable day for my city.
Yes, today we are celebrating MADRAS DAY.
It commemorates the founding of the city in August 22, 1639 by the British East India Company.
But before even the city can be found, Madras/Chennai flourished many centuries ago and this very picture is an example of activity that is carried out every year for the past many hundred years. Lord Parthasarathy rides in the chariot along the mada streets of triplicane. Triplicane is one of the places that flourished in education, spirituality, business and living standards centuries ago before the British landed here.
Is this Madras day all about talking about the good old madras, the city that was; celebrations; old pictures and heritage buildings?
Let us keep that in our heart and let us keep the city clean and healthy. Let us not use the roads and the streets for spitting, dumping garbage and sewage. Let us not jump signals and bribe the government and talk about corruption. Let us not waste water and in the mean time say government is not providing water facility, good road, electricity, etc, etc… When a common man (yes, that’s us) thinks clean, the city that gave ‘life’ to enormous lives will become clean.
A very happy, clean and BETTER MADRAS DAY TO ALL OF YOU.
